Dr. James M. Gurtisen

Dr. Gurtisen is a graduate of Pacific University and has been in private practice since 1991. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Past President of the Portland Metro Optometric Association the Lion's Club and is treasurer of a fishing club. He does exceptional work in the areas of Astigmatic and Bifocal contact lens fitting. He dedicates two days per week in Geriatric Vision which includes Nursing home care and application of devices for the visually handicapped. Dr. Gurtisen obtained a BS. in Fishery Science from University of Washington in 1970. He spent two years in the Army during the Vietnam era as a Combat Engineer. From there he spent 15 years with Battelle Memorial Institute as a specialist in radiological, inorganic and organic chemistry supporting biological and environmental research. Dr. Gurtisen is currently a foster care provider for the Morrison Family and Child Care Center. He spends most of his spare time with his wife Shereen and his two Cocker Spaniels.



Nancy Buset, O.D.

Dr. Nancy Buset enjoys working with all kinds of patients, but she particularly likes kids. She specializes in children’s vision and vision development, including amblyopia (“lazy eye”) and vision-related learning and attention problems.

Dr. Nancy is a volunteer optometrist for InfantSEE®, a program providing free eye health and vision development evaluations for babies 6-12 months old. The program, sponsored by the American Optometric Association and Johnson & Johnson, is designed to encourage early detection and treatment of factors that can affect a child’s eye health and vision throughout life.

Dr. Nancy grew up in Kansas, and went to college in central Iowa. She obtained her Doctor of Optometry degree from Northeastern State University College of Optometry in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, in 2001.

Since moving to Oregon in 2001, Dr. Nancy has enjoyed the many outdoor recreation opportunities in the Pacific Northwest. Her husband, Ty, is a photographer, and they enjoy hiking and camping together. They both also sing and play the piano. Dr. Nancy directs two handbell choirs, one for children and one for adults, at her church in downtown Portland. She enjoys reading, scrap-booking, and Broadway musicals.

Dr. Nancy joined Troutdale Vision Clinic in February, 2007. She is a member of the American Optometric Association, the Oregon Association of Optometric Physicians, and the College of Optometrists in Vision Development.
